What is a Parental Responsibility Agreement?
A Parental Responsibility Agreement is an agreement made between the mother and the unmarried father to allow him to have joint parental responsibility.
It is suitable where:
• The child was born before 1st December 2003
• An unmarried father of a child born after 1st December 2003 is not on the birth certificate
• In all civil partnerships where either party already has a child or gives birth after the civil partnership is registered
The Parental Responsibility Agreement must be made on a prescribed form. It must be signed and witnessed by a Justices’ Clerk or Court Officer and filed at the Principal Registry of the Family Division.
What will it cost?
By selecting a fixed fee we guarantee that you will pay no more. What work will be included?
We will:
• Collect all the relevant information from you
• Draw up the Agreement
• Arrange for you to attend at your local magistrates’ Court to sign the Agreement
• Correspond with the other party on your behalf
• Lodge the Agreement with the Family Division to be registered
• Send sealed copies to you when we get them
AND we will give you up to 30 minutes of advice on related issues.
Additional costs
In some cases additional work can be required and we do charge extra for this. For example, disputes may arise in relation to decisions by one parent such as holidays, education, medical treatment, contact, etc. Any extra costs will be notified to you and agreed in advance.
